Report: Unwanted Wolves player now being tipped to replace Bruno Fernandes at Man United

Fosun have earned criticism for some of their transfer dealings over the years, and one decision in 2019 may soon come back to bite them.

Matheus Cunha looks set to leave Molineux this summer, with the club looking to cash in on the Brazilian after a fantastic season.

Selling at the right time, though, isn’t something Wolves have always got right.

This was the case back in 2019, when the Wolves hierarchy decided to sell youngster Pedro Goncalves – a player who is now attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs six years on.

Former Wolves man Pedro Goncalves targeted by Man United

Wolves’ mistake of letting Vitinha go has been well-documented, but another mistake from Fosun that goes under the radar is the decision to sell Goncalves.

After managing only one appearance for the Wolves’ first team, the Portuguese attacker departed Molineux in 2019 in a move to Famalicao.

Goncalves has thrived back in his homeland, helping Sporting Lisbon to multiple Portuguese titles under Ruben Amorim.

Aston Villa wanted to sign Goncalves back in January, but it seems like a reunion with his former boss Amorim could be more likely this summer.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

That is according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, who claim that Man United are viewing Goncalves as a possible Bruno Fernandes replacement, after recent rumours of a Saudi Arabia switch.

Wolves could net millions from Goncalves transfer

Although Wolves let Goncalves go for a measly £1 million back in 2019, he could still end up securing millions this summer.

That is because Wolves have a 20% sell-on clause inserted in Goncalves’ deal, which is active for the next two transfers.

The 26-year-old has a reported £67 million release clause, which, if activated, could potentially land Wolves a nice £13.4 million payday.

Wolves are expected to be busy this summer, and that extra cash will no doubt be a massive help in securing a possible Cunha replacement.
