We're delighted to confirm that **Chloe Gilroy** will be joining **Bristol Rovers** after a successful campaign with **AFC Bournemouth** last season.
A Project Support Officer for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks, the 24-year-old arrives following an impressive campaign with the Cherries, where she netted 8 goals as they secured the Division One South West title with an **unbeaten record** in 2024/25.
Gilroy began her footballing journey with **Bristol Academy** and has since featured in the **National League** for **Bridgwater United**, **Southampton**, and **Exeter City**. She has also represented Somerset and enjoyed success in Europe with England Colleges during her youth career.
Chloe mentioned already feeling a real sense of togetherness and support throughout the club as she spoke to the media for the first time:
**What aspects of your title-winning experience at Bournemouth do you think can make a real impact here at Rovers, both on the pitch and behind the scenes?**
_"On the pitch, I’d say the biggest thing is the sense of togetherness and collective drive. At Bournemouth, we really played for each other — it wasn’t just about individual performance, it was about pulling everyone through as a unit. That mindset makes a huge difference, especially in tight games. Football is a team game, and when you’ve got that trust and connection with the players around you, it shows in the results."_
_"Off the pitch, I think that same mentality applies. There are always ups and downs over the course of a season, but keeping spirits high and staying positive is crucial. If we’re not where we want to be at half-time, for example, it’s about regrouping, lifting each other up, and going again in the second half. Being a goal or two down isn’t the end — it’s a challenge, and it’s about pushing through together and not giving up._
_That resilience and belief carried us far last season, and I’m hoping to bring that same energy to Rovers."_
**Every club has its own culture. What have you noticed about the Rovers’ environment so far, and how do you see yourself fitting into or enhancing that culture?**
_"From what I’ve seen so far, Rovers has such a welcoming and close-knit environment. I already know a few of the girls from previous clubs, and even before joining, I could see how strong the bond is — both on and off the pitch. You really get the sense that everyone backs each other, and that kind of unity is something you don’t find everywhere._
_Between the players and staff, it feels like there’s a real sense of togetherness and support throughout the club. I’m really looking forward to fitting in and hopefully adding to what already seems like a great atmosphere."_
**Looking ahead to pre-season and the start of the campaign, which part of your game are you most eager to develop further, and how can Bristol Rovers’ setup help you reach that next level?**
_"One area I’m really keen to develop is my leadership — being someone who can help guide others and bring the team together during key moments. Earlier in my career, I was often one of the younger players in the squad, but as I’ve progressed through women’s football, I’ve gained more experience and confidence in my role._
_We’ve got a number of young players coming through, and I see that as a great opportunity for me to step up and support them, both on and off the pitch. I think the environment here, with the strong culture and support around the team, is the perfect place for me to take that next step and build those leadership qualities further."_
**Manager Nathan Hallett-Young** is keen to add Chloe's experience to our front line:
_"Chloe is a fantastic signing for us. She brings a wealth of experience, having won the league with Bournemouth last season, and she knows what it takes to compete at the top end of this division. That kind of experience is exactly what we were looking to add to the squad._
_On top of that, she’s a player of real quality. She scored eight goals from wide areas last season, which is an area we identified as needing improvement. Adding goals to the team was a priority, and Chloe ticks that box._
_Beyond her footballing ability, she's also a great character. She's level-headed, highly competitive, and will bring a strong presence to the dressing room. We're confident she’ll add real competition to the squad and help drive us forward as we look to build on the solid foundations laid last season."_
