Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher is set to join Brentford in a deal potentially worth £18million after Arne Slot green-lighted his exit.

The 26-year-old has won many admirers due to his performances as the Reds' backup keeper over the past couple of years. However, with Alisson firmly holding the first-choice keeper spot and Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive from Valencia in the next transfer window, it's been agreed that a permanent move is the best course of action.

Brentford's interest in Kelleher has been longstanding, and it was revealed earlier this week that they had revived talks with their Premier League counterparts about a potential deal.

With the Bees' current No. 1, Mark Flekken, poised to make his own move to Bayer Leverkusen, the path has been cleared for Kelleher to secure the regular football he desires.

Sky Sports has confirmed that an agreement has been reached, with the player scheduled for a medical on Monday ahead of an initial £12.5m deal, with performance related add-ons taking the eventual fee to £18m.

The deal will provide an immediate boost to Liverpool's finances as they look to seal a club-record £109m deal for Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz.

Kelleher hasn't hidden his ambition to play regularly and during Liverpool's recent title celebrations, he confirmed his plans to move this summer.

"Yeah, yeah definitely," he said. "I've said it before as well, I feel like I'm good enough to be a No.1 and I feel like I'm good enough to play week in, week out and that's what I'm looking to do. This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games but it's definitely something I'm looking at."

Reflecting on his ambitions, Kelleher added: "The season I've had, I've played a lot of games and had that taste this season of being a number one. Whether that's at Liverpool or elsewhere, that remains to be seen. My main focus at the moment is to be number one.

"Obviously I love playing for Ireland. A big ambition of mine is to be the number one here – obviously that only comes hand in hand when I'm number one at the club as well. That plays a major part as well, in terms of helping my case to be Ireland number one."
