Man United have been linked to Ipswich’s Liam Delap over a summer transfer, but it seems he could move to Chelsea.

However, recent reports suggest that Delap looks likely to move to Chelsea instead this summer as they will have Champions League football, meaning that United may have to look elsewhere.

Man United should sign Wissa over Delap

With a deal for Delap looking less likely, Man United could instead look at Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, who scored more goals than the Ipswich striker this season in the Premier League.

Wissa, 28, scored 19 goals and provided four assist in the Premier League this season, alongside Bryan Mbeumo, managed to make Thomas Frank’s side outside contenders for European football.

The Congo international’s contract expires in June 2026, meaning that he goes into the summer with just one year left on his deal, meaning that Brentford could be keen to cash in on him rather than signing him to a new contract.

Wissa reportedly attracted interest from Nottingham Forest in January, and the Reds could come in for him again. However, if United were to pursue a deal for the attacker, it is unlikely that Brentford would oppose it too much due to Wissa’s contract situation.

The 28-year-old has an estimated market value of around £25m, however, Brentford would likely demand closer to £30m...the same that United would have paid for Delap.

United could bring in Brentford duo

Wissa isn’t the only Brentford player that United could sign this summer as they have already been linked to adding Bryan Mbeumo, who is wanted by several Premier League clubs this year.

Much like Wissa, Mbeumo has just one year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, and so the Bees could cash in on him this summer. Mbeumo was one of the best attackers in the league this season, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists for Frank’s team.

The Brentford boss has spoken about Mbeumo’s uncertain future amid interest from Man United, Newcastle and Arsenal. Frank said at the end of the season: “I'm the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever.

“I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he's thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don't know. I've said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren't selling clubs.

"So, of course, if the right price - and that's going to be expensive - is coming, then I'm sure the club will be open for it. But I'm very happy he's here, and I'm convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here."
