Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia has sent a pretty clear message to Barcelona amid [continued talk of a move to Hansi Flick’s side](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/25/24436841/barcelona-go-for-joan-garcia-hansi-flick-and-deco-decide-to-sign-a-goalkeeper).
The stopper has been quizzed on his future yet again this weekened and how important it is to him to be a starter if he does move.
Garcia made it pretty clear that if he does change clubs, he does not want to be on the bench.
> “A lot. All players want to play, I’ve just started. I’ve been playing for a year and a half and I want to keep playing,” he told Catalunya Radio.
>
> “There are many factors to consider, but for me, being so young and with the desire I have, it’s very important to keep playing.
>
> “I don’t know if I’m leaving. I said it right after the game, with emotions running high. It’s the reality. My situation and the club’s are known, but I’m very calm. I’m an Espanyol player. I’ve been calm all season, and I’ll continue to be.”
The goalkeeper also said he will only fully decide when he’s completely ready, meaning it could take a little time to figure out what to do next.
> “I’m very calm, and whatever needs to be decided, I’m sure I’ll think it over a lot with my people and choose what will be best for me. And I’m sure it will be like that,” he added.
>
> “It doesn’t depend solely on me. It depends on many factors: it depends on the clubs, and obviously on me as well. But I’m very clear about it.
>
> “Whatever I decide, whatever it is, I’ll do it with 100% conviction, without any doubt. And if I have to wait a little longer, so be it. But I’ll do it with conviction.
>
> “Facing Espanyol wouldn’t be a problem. It would be nice too. These things can happen, but I try to look on the bright side of things, and if it happens, I’d be excited about it.”
[Speculation this weekend has claimed Barcelona are closing in on agreement with Garcia](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/5/31/24440528/joan-garcia-expected-to-give-green-light-to-barcelona-transfer). It seems Barca and his agents are eager to do the deal, but the player himself is still yet to give the go ahead.
