Jeremie Frimpong has said he is “grateful and honoured” as his transfer to Liverpool is officially confirmed.
It was announced on Friday that the defender was set to join from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €35 million ($39.7M/£29.5M), just hours after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid was rubber-stamped.
Frimpong is the first signing in what looks set to be a busy summer, and with the window opening on Sunday, his transfer has now been completed. He is officially a Liverpool player.
Posting on Instagram for the first time as a Red, the 24-year-old uploaded a photo of his family along with the caption: “Seeing the smiles on the people you love means everything. Grateful and honoured to be a red. Let’s get this started.”
Frimpong’s family has been a central theme during his transfer unveiling. “Dad, I play for your club” was a memorable quote from the player’s signing videos.
Despite the Dutchman’s eagerness to get going at Liverpool, he’ll have to wait around five more weeks to get started. He is currently part of the Netherlands squad training ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Finland and Malta, along with new club teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo.
Ronald Koeman’s side travels to Helsinki next Saturday, before hosting the Maltese three days later.

While Frimpong has traditionally operated as a right-back during his career, Liverpool does view him as a versatile player who can play anywhere on the right flank. That is particularly helpful given that Mohamed Salah is expected to miss a chunk of the 2025/26 season at the African Cup of Nations.
Frimpong tended to play as an offensive right wing-back at Bayer Leverkusen, a position he is unlikely to undertake at Liverpool given Arne Slot doesn’t favor a 3-4-3 system.
He is expected to be joined at Anfield by long-term teammate Florian Wirtz. Reports have suggested Liverpool has tabled a club record offer for the German international.
That would represent quite the start to the summer for the Reds, while a deal for Milos Kerkez could also be secured in the coming weeks. Reports have indicated that there have been talks over a possible move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike as well.
Meanwhile, a transfer fee of up to £18M has been agreed for the departure of Caoimhin Kelleher, with the Irish goalkeeper set to join Brentford
