Huddersfield Town recently announced the hiring of former Manchester United goalkeeper Lee Grant as their new manager with Grant coming off the back of coaching as an assistant with Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town.
Grant, who comes into the Huddersfield Town role following the Terrier’s 10th place finish in League One, was well liked by many supporters and staff alike.
However, to prepare the West Yorkshire outfit for a League One promotion push next season, the former United goalkeeper is looking to expand his coaching team to provide him with guidance and support whilst at Huddersfield Town.
McShane Targeted By Huddersfield
It has been reported by journalist Alan Nixon that Grant wants to utilise the services of current United coach Paul McShane. The two coaches know each other through their time with the Red Devils and would be reuniting in West Yorkshire ahead of the 2025-26 season if this deal was to go through.
McShane, who is an academy coach currently in the Under 15s setup, has experience with both his time at United and through his time with the Republic of Ireland Under 21s setup.
The prospect of a senior coaching role, such as the one that is being offered to the coach at Huddersfield Town, could appeal to the Republic of Ireland youth coach and may leave McShane with a big career choice to make other the coming weeks.
This could leave Manchester United’s Under 15 academy setup more thin which would force the Red Devils to recruit a specialised and talented coach who could nurture, mentor and guide youth players into the professionals that are seen on the hallowed turf of Old Trafford.
With this move possibly happening, would it affect United’s youth setup and would it affect the development of key youth players or would the club recruit a new, talented coach to continue the high-quality setup that the Manchester United youth academy holds?
