Matheus Cunha has officially signed for Manchester United but the Brazilian forward is not the only player the club are targeting from the Premier League this summer.
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves on a five-year deal worth £62.5 million, pending visa approval and registration.
The 26-year-old Brazilian becomes Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer, as United look to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.
Cunha is expected to add much-needed quality to a forward line that has struggled for cutting edge. The fee will be paid in three instalments, starting with an initial £20.8 million.
However, the Reds need further reinforcements in attack and midfield particularly, with another striker and a right-sided no.10 the priorities for the club right now.
Cunha could have knock-on effect in Mbeumo deal
United would have likely been pushing to try and complete a deal for Liam Delap next but he has opted to join Chelsea, which leaves them looking elsewhere for a centre-forward.
But in terms of the right-sided no.10 role, it seems like Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is the preferred choice for those at Old Trafford. According to reports, he would cost around £50 million this summer.
Despite being linked with Newcastle as well, it has recently been reported that Mbeumo is open to joining a good project and will not base his decision solely on Champions League football.
This has been followed up by Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports, who has suggested that the signing of Cunha at United may well convince other targets of a move join Amorim’s squad.
“I’m sure that Man United will hope that now they’ve got someone like Cunha coming to the club, it might pave the way for way for other players,” the reporter said. “Man United still have that pulling power and the Cunha signing demonstrates that.”
Cunha deal gives confidence in United project
Top players want to play alongside top players. United are an attractive club even when they are at their worst but seeing players like Cunha join will certainly give other players more confidence in the project United are showing them.
Mbeumo would be another superb addition to the team if United managed to convince him of a move. He would be another player who needs no adjustment time and has already proven to be a reliable goalscorer in England.

That move is not guaranteed, however, since Newcastle are in a good place as a team and many would argue that they are a more attractive destination right now.
But there is certainly a chance that the Cameroonian international is convinced of the project being sold at United, especially after seeing another top Premier League star make the move.
