'Do not forget': Rio Ferdinand tells Man Utd what they must do next after completing Matheus Cunha deal

Manchester United have had a dismal season, finishing 15th in the Premier League and ending the season without a trophy.

Despite the struggles, the club are ready to back Ruben Amorim going into the next season, as the former Sporting Lisbon manager plans a squad rebuild.

They have already made their first signing, with Manchester United officially agreeing a deal for Matheus Cunha.

United activated the Brazilian forward’s £62.5 million release clause, handing him a five-year contract with an option for a further year. And Rio Ferdinand has now reacted to United’s new signing.

Rio Ferdinand on what Manchester United should do next after confirming Matheus Cunha signing

The Man United legend has weighed in on the club’s new signing, expressing excitement over Cunha’s arrival, calling it a promising start to the transfer window.

And Ferdinand urged the club to focus on signing an experienced number nine next along with a central midfielder and a new right-back.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “I think this is a great start to the transfer window.

“I think if I was the the recruitment team now, if I was advising them on anything now, I’ll be saying please make sure you do not forget an experienced number nine. I’m not going to say names. I’ve said the names too many times.

“I’d go and get a midfielder as well. A midfielder who can either dictate the play and pass and be the orchestrator…

“So those those those two players will be the next ones, a centre forward and a centre midfielder, and also a right back.”

Strikers Manchester United could sign this summer

A new striker remains the club’s top priority following a poor season from Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.

The pair are expected to be on the chopping list for United who need to further bolster their attack.

Chelsea beat Man United to Liam Delap’s signing ruling him out as an option. Another player linked with a move is Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.

TBR Football has recently reported that Mateta has spoken to Manchester United, amid contract issues at Crystal Palace.

Other strikers linked with United include Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, and even former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, with Man United being approached by intermediaries regarding Abraham.
