Manchester United supporters are nervously waiting to hear whether or not their captain Bruno Fernandes will be representing the club next season.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder dragged United out of a potential relegation battle on his own with 19 goals and 20 assists across all competitions. Doubt about whether or not Fernandes would be at the club next season began immediately after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Fernandes admitted that he would not stand in the way of the club 'cashing in' on him. He also reiterated that he would only leave when the club decided that the time was right for him.

Since then, things have escalated further with Al Hilal leading the race to sign Fernandes. With this in mind, MEN Sport has taken a closer look at the latest we know about the captain's future.

Fernandes and United stance

MEN Sport reported this week that Fernandes is seriously considering leaving United for Al Hilal this summer. His agent, Miguel Pinho, was in Riyadh over the last few days to hold talks with the Saudi Pro League club's representatives.

It is thought that Fernandes could be offered as much as £700,000 per week to sign for the club. Meanwhile, United have remained 'relaxed' about the prospect of losing their key player.

United are open to offers for all of their squad this summer after such a disastrous campaign.

Scholes open to selling Fernandes

United legend Paul Scholes admitted he would accept a £100m offer for Fernandes this summer, despite how crucial he has been for the club. "They are talking about £100m for him. Man United cannot say no to that," he explained on The Overlap Fan Debate.

"You know when you talk about this system as well, I know he has been brilliant and carried the team on his back but where does he play? What is his position?

"Do you see him as a No.10? Do you see him as a holding midfielder? He almost confuses the whole system because he doesn’t have that one position for him.

"I mean he has been brilliant don’t get me wrong. But when you’re getting £100m for him you snap their hand off and take it."

Cryptic message

On Saturday, Fernandes sparked even more concern that he could be leaving the club when he took to social media to post a cryptic message about his future. Written in Portuguese, the captain shared a message which translates to: "If you tried and failed, congratulations!

"There are people who don't even try." There have been worries that this could relate to his time at United.

Despite consistently being the club's best player, his output has not yielded a change of fortunes and, in fact, the club have regressed instead. Time will tell if Fernandes is Saudi-bound or not.
