‘When you snooze, you lose’ goes the saying and it appears that [West Ham](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-on-alert-as-ramsdale-seeks-starting-role/) have been caught napping on day one of the transfer window. _“Chairman and Manger are on holiday whilst top transfer target is snapped up by competitor”_ is how this article should be titled: But who wants to read that.
Often contributors to Claret and Hugh entreat us to cover more positive stories but it is a little tricky when news like this breaks.
Reported just today by in The Know Journo [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1929202088510132232) on his twitter page, Brentford have agreed a deal for top West Ham target, Liverpool goalkeeper **Caoimhin Kelleher** for just £18 million, – including add-ons, according to Romano, who has already given the deal his customary ‘here we go’ seal of approval.
West Ham, without Lucas Fabianski and with Alphonse Areola the subject of apparent interest from Espanyol, will be in the market for a new goal keeper and were rumoured to be ‘preparing’ a £20 million bid for ‘top target’ Kelleher.
Not any more.
Blown out of the water by fast, decisive action by their West London competitors. Hardly the greatest start to the summer window. Someone get thrice-relegated Aaron Ramsdale’s agent on the phone. Talk about low ambition.
