Tottenham appear to be shopping for new managers as they ponder over Ange Postecoglou.
But after a disastrous Premier League campaign that saw Spurs register a record-low when it comes to points total, Postecoglou’s position is far from secure. Tottenham are taking their time over their Postecoglou decision, but it does look as though they may be shopping for a new boss.
One of the latest reports has suggested that Spurs have spoken to Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, with a claim coming from Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.
Palmeri told talkSPORT about Inzaghi’s future: “The situation is that Al Hilal offered him £25m per season for two seasons. I can tell you that he had advanced contacts with both Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur but at the same time, the priority for him is to stay at Inter.
“Obviously if we talk on a financial level nobody can compete with the salary that Al Hilal are offering. But the Premier League is always a great temptation and at the same time I must tell you that Inzaghi already rejected Liverpool last summer and Manchester United in October.”
Inzaghi and what he has said
Inzaghi is currently in his second managerial role, but he has been with Inter Milan since 2021, in that time, he has won the Serie A league title, two Italian Coppas and three Italian Super Cups. He has also led Inter to two Champions League finals, but both have ended in defeat.
The first was a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, while the second was a much more bruising affair, with Inter losing 5-0 to PSG in Saturday’s final. Inzaghi, whose other job was with Lazio between 2016 and 2021, winning an Italian Coppa and two Super Cups, was asked about his Inter future after Saturday’s final in Munich.
“As I was saying before to your colleague, I cannot answer this question now,” he responded. “I came here out of respect for you, for politeness because I am hurting from a sporting point of view. It’s not the right time to talk about the future. We are extremely disappointed and since July of last year we’ve played 58 or 59 games, we got to this final match, so it’s awkward to talk about my future now.
“Again, we are extremely disappointed. We will be talking about the fact we won no silverware this year but these players deserve great credit because they gave it their very best shot and we suffered a lot of injuries. I wouldn’t change these players for anyone else.”
Inter are involved in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, so Inter will want to have their manager locked in by the time they travel to the United States in less than a fortnight. Whether Inzaghi will commit remains to be seen, and whether Tottenham will get their man is another.
Spurs must first decide over Postecoglou, and then they would have the very tricky task of convincing Inzaghi to take the job after such a disappointing season.
