’It’s red everywhere’: NBA superstar blown away by Wrexham fans who attend American…

Wrexham continue to drive major interest from the United States, and that will be on show at The Soccer Tournament this summer.

Wrexham’s rise shows no sign of slowing down having clinched a third straight promotion under Phil Parkinson.

Just over two years ago, Wrexham clinched promotion from the National League with a victory over Boreham Wood.

Now, Parkinson is gearing up for life in the Championship as Wrexham continue to push towards the Premier League.

Rob McElhenney sees more Wrexham success coming in the future, and there is every reason to believe that the club can kick on again.

Wrexham’s enormous commercial income has been driven by increased popularity and visibility in the United States, with ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ becoming a huge hit.

NBA superstar Chris Paul on Wrexham fans

Wrexham won’t be heading to the United States for a pre-season tour this summer as Parkinson’s side head to Australia and New Zealand instead.

North American fans will still have a chance to represent Wrexham this summer, though, as The Soccer Tournament takes place once again.

MORE WREXHAM STORIES

Wrexham have entered a team into The Soccer Tournament, a seven-a-side competition in North Carolina, for the last two years.

Former Premier League title winner Marc Albrighton will be playing for Wrexham in this summer’s edition, alongside a host of Wrexham players past and present, as well as American amateur players.

Wrexham are always incredibly well-supported in this competition, a testament to the club’s immense popularity in the United States.

NBA superstar Chris Paul has now told The Soccer Tournament’s YouTube channel that he can’t wait to see Wrexham take on The CONCAFA Soccer Club this summer – the team featuring WWE commentator and former NFL star Pat McAfee.

Paul noted that hype around McAfee’s team will be high, especially as he will be filming The Pat McAfee Show during his time in North Carolina.

However, point guard Paul added that Wrexham’s fans are truly the best at The Soccer Tournament every year, claiming ‘it’s red everywhere’ when Wrexham are in town.

There are so many teams entering this tournament every year, but it’s Wrexham fans who have made a lasting impact on Paul ahead of this year’s edition.

“That is going to be crazy,” said Paul when asked about Wrexham against The CONCAFA Soccer Club.

“First of all, because Pat’s following is like none other. Obviously, Pat does the show from there, so this team is already going to be energised and excited, but no one really travels to the TST (The Soccer Tournament) like Wrexham.

“Wrexham shows up in a whole different way, it’s red everywhere in that stadium! The only team that probably travels better is the women’s national soccer team, so that game against Wrexham, that’s going to be a good one,” he added.

Lee Trundle previously highlighted Wrexham support

Paul has clearly been blown away by Wrexham’s support at The Soccer Tournament, and he’s not alone.

Lee Trundle praised the travelling Wrexham fans last year, claiming that most of those watching the tournament were there for Wrexham.

“I think Wrexham got invited because of how big they are in America, because we went into the tournament and it was like… we played on the main pitch every single time, because they had to say who they were there supporting on a survey when they bought the tickets,” said Trundle.

“I think, out of 20,000 over the weekend, I think it was like 14,000 said they were supporting Wrexham, so every game we played, the stadium was full,” he added.

This may only be a seven-a-side tournament, but it’s another brilliant example of just how huge Wrexham have become.

All eyes will be on Wrexham once again when the tournament kicks off this week, with the likes of Albrighton, Ben Tozer and Mark Howard hoping to secure victory and the $1million prize pot.
