Liverpool is making swift moves this summer to secure its top targets, prompting a reaction from its main competitors. The Reds have already secured the services of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, filling the gap left by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure.
Florian Wirtz could also be making the switch from Leverkusen to Liverpool, with ongoing discussions about a potential British-record transfer. Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth is another player on Liverpool's radar as Arne Slot aims to bolster his left-back options.
One deal often sparks a flurry of others in any transfer window. This summer, that could very well be Wirtz's potential move to Liverpool. Bayern Munich and Manchester City were both interested in the German international recently, but both appear to have backed off due to the high costs and the player's preference for Anfield.
City's own activity in the transfer market suggests it is ready to move on, as it is nearing deals for a midfielder and a wide forward. Wirtz has experience playing in both positions during his time at Leverkusen.
Sky Sports reports that City is negotiating with Milan over the possible signing of Tijjani Reijnders. The Serie A heavyweights reportedly want $80 million (£59 million) for the midfielder, with City so far offering $68 million (£50 million).
Sunday brought further news regarding City, with reports suggesting that Pep Guardiola's side is edging closer to signing Rayan Cherki.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are now confident of securing a deal around the $40 million (£30 million) mark for the Lyon forward.

Meanwhile, Arsenal is reportedly in discussions with RB Leipzig over the potential acquisition of Benjamin Sesko, as per Sky in Germany.
The 21 year old striker reportedly has a release clause of $90 million (£67 million) in his current contract. The Gunners are keen to bolster their attacking options as they aim to narrow the gap to the Reds this season and are also nearing a deal for Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
Liverpool continues to be linked with numerous players across Europe, including Wirtz and Kerkez. Given these developments, there's little worry at Anfield about how the transfer window is shaping up, both for them and their main competitors.

There is likely to be outgoings too, with Caoimhin Kelleher on his way to Brentford after a deal was agreed with the Premier League side.
It has also emerged that Leverkusen is keen on including a player in any deal for Wirtz, with interest in both Harvey Elliott and Jarrell Quansah, who found opportunities hard to come by this season.
