A former Bayern Munich star has lauded Liverpool ace Cody Gakpo amid speculation that he could leave Anfield during the summer transfer window.
Gakpo emerged as a key figure for the Reds, dazzling under the guidance of head coach Arne Slot in their triumphant Premier League campaign. Liverpool's acquisition of Gakpo back in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven for around $54 million (£40 million) proved a masterstroke.
Donning the famous red shirt, the Dutchman has been prolific, netting 41 times in 128 outings - with this season's tally standing at 18 goals across competitions, contributing significantly to Liverpool's 20th league triumph.
As the summer transfer festivities commence, the rumor mill is in full swing regarding Liverpool's potential business. Florian Wirtz remains Liverpool's top target and talks continue over a record move to Anfield, following the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is another target but there is increased speculation about who may head out of the club.
A fee has been agreed with Brentford for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, while the likes of Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliott and Luiz Diaz have all been linked with moves away.
Bayern Munich reportedly has its sights set on Gakpo, fuelling speculation about his potential exit. The Bundesliga champions have also been credited with interest in AC Milan's Rafael Leao and Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma.

Amidst this transfer chatter, ex-Bayern midfielder Mark van Bommel has offered his take on a potential move for countryman Gakpo.
"Cody is doing very well for Liverpool and also for our national team," Van Bommel expressed to Sport Bild.
"He's a very fast winger who performs brilliantly on his own. What's special is that he's also a very good finisher. He's a real goal threat!
"In addition to his footballing qualities, Gakpo is Dutch - and Dutch players have always been good at Bayern. But I'm not on Bayern's scouting team.."

It is unclear if Liverpool would be willing to let Gakpo depart this summer, given his importance to Arne Slot over the course of the season. Any deal would likely need to be an increase on the fee Liverpool paid for his services back in 2023.
Meanwhile, Luis Diaz's partner has sparked speculation about his future by posting an apparent farewell message on social media. Gera Ponce shared photos of their family celebrating the title win at Anfield alongside the message.
