Marcus Rashford doesn’t seem to have a future at Manchester United and is keen on joining Barcelona this summer.
Last week, the forward’s agent had a meeting with the La Liga winners’ sporting director, Deco, in a hotel in Barcelona. Sport had stated Rashford is willing to take a pay cut to secure a move to the Camp Nou.
Monday’s edition of Sport states Manchester United want to sell the 27-year-old, but not at any price.
They state the Red Devils want €40m and ‘stand firm’ on the price in every meeting they’ve had for him so far. The Premier League club see this is a ‘fair price’ for a player who has a contract until 2028.
Barca have no intention of meeting Manchester United’s request and are looking at different formulas to sign him.
Over at AS, they state the England international and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz are both ‘in pole position’ to join Barcelona. They are looking for a left winger who can also operate as a No.9 and both players fit this profile.
Deco sees the Manchester United player and the 28-year-old Colombian as valid options for the Catalan club. The financial aspects make it complicated for the Spanish champions to sign either of them.
The Reds will request a lot of money and earlier claims have stated it’s between €70-80m. In addition to the price, Hansi Flick’s side also have to be wary of the competition from Al-Nassr.
AS state Rashford’s price tag is around €48m, which is €8m more than the figure quoted by Sport. Barcelona aren’t willing to meet this price and are looking for a paid loan with an option to buy.
Rashford is a year younger than Díaz and also a cheaper option. Manchester United are determined to sell and Barca won’t face any competition. These are factors that make it relatively easier for Barca to sign Rashford.
