William Gallas Names "Exceptional" Liverpool Star As His Player Of The Year (And It Isn't Mo Salah)

Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender William Gallas believes Alexis Mac Allister deserves his fair share of praise for helping Liverpool win the Premier League title this season.

Mo Salah has received plaudits and awards for his efforts, but speaking to Prime Casino, Gallas said Mac Allister’s performances also should be recognised:

“You have to look towards the team that won the title, and I really rate the contribution of Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool. He’s had a great season. He never really gets spoken about too much, but he’s always there, doing his job. He’s someone that I think has been exceptional.”

“He might not be showy, maybe he doesn’t grab the headlines, but he is a class midfield player and he has delivered at times when his club needed him.”

Liverpool fans will wholeheartedly agree with Gallas’s remarks

Mac Allister has undoubtedly been a key part in the Reds securing their 20th top division title. Not only has he dictated play in the middle of the park, but he has scored some crucial goals as well.

Gallas’s comments would be echoed by supporters who have watched the Argentinian international week in and week out over the course of the campaign.

Will Mac Allister make the Team of the Year?

Gallas is not the only pundit to single out the midfielder for praise. Both Alan Shearer and Jamie Carragher named him in their Premier League Team of the Season. However, he was notably absent from Gary Neville’s XI.

While not many give Mac Allister much of a chance of competing with Salah for the PFA Player of the Year, most would agree he should be named in the PFA XI which will be voted on by the players later this year.
