Atletico Madrid identify £55m star as no.1 target, Arsenal have finalised personal terms with…

Arsenal are anticipated to sign a marquee striker during the summer transfer window.

The club have been linked with multiple options, but they are currently focusing on two players.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is the number one priority for the Gunners, with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres being the backup option.

Record (page 6) today claim that Atletico Madrid are eager to land a new centre-forward and have identified Gyokeres as their number one choice.

The La Liga giants are keen to back manager Diego Simeone with high-profile signings, and money is not a problem with the incoming Nike deal.

Nike are expected to guarantee £25 million per season until the summer of 2035.

Gyokeres is prepared to take his time to choose his next club. Sporting CP could sell him for a package between £55m and £59m, as per Record.

Arsenal need to make quick decision on new striker

The Gunners have started concrete talks with Leipzig regarding Sesko. The German outfit are holding out for his £67m release clause, and payment terms need to be negotiated.

As things stand, no agreement has been found. Arsenal have yet to finalise personal terms with the 22-year-old too. Hence, they are nowhere close to signing the Slovenian ace.

On the contrary, Gyokeres has ‘given his verbal agreement‘ to join the club. If Arsenal were to miss out on Sesko, they are most likely to approach Sporting CP to land the Swede.

In our view, the Gunners need to make a quick decision on a new striker. They should avoid a situation where Sesko is unattainable while Atletico win the race for Gyokeres.

With the transfer window initially open until June 10, Arsenal must make an early statement by signing a marquee striker.

The hierarchy can’t afford to haggle over the price as interest in both Sesko and Gyokeres will only increase this summer.
