Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United forward 'in contact' over permanent exit - final decision this week

Man Utd will focus on player sales in the summer transfer window and there could be one this week.

It could be a week of goodbyes at Manchester United as they look to rebuild their squad under Ruben Amorim. United reached an agreement to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha over the weekend and his planned arrival will give the greenlight for others to leave the club.

While his future could yet go either way, Jadon Sancho is a player almost certain to leave the club this summer. Chelsea have an obligation to buy him for at least £20 million, though they can pay a £5 million penalty if they want to back out of a deal. We should know by the end of the week.

Chelsea in contact over Sancho contract

Jadon Sancho scored a goal as Chelsea won the Conference League final last week with an impressive 4-1 comeback win over Real Betis in the final. The 25-year-old scored five goals and notched 10 assists in 41 appearances for the London club during his loan spell and showed enough to suggest he deserved a permanent move.

It is understood Chelsea are open to a deal, though it could come down to the finances. Fabrizio Romano claims talks will continue this week over a possible resolution, with Sancho's salary a sticking point in their negotiations.

"Chelsea remain in contact with Jadon Sancho’s camp over contract terms, still no agreement on salary so far," the transfer guru wrote on X. "Final decision will be in few days, outcome expected next week. If contract terms are not agreed, Sancho will go back to Manchester United with £5m compensation."

Even if Chelsea pay the penalty fee and Sancho returns to Old Trafford, he is still expected to be sold this summer as they look to rebuild under Ruben Amorim. Sancho joined United in a £73m deal from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021 but never really found his feet back in Manchester. The former Man City youngster only made 83 appearances for the first-team before he was exiled after a falling out with former manager Erik ten Hag.
