Arsenal await Russo injury update as Sweden trio return to training

Alessia Russo, Stina Blackstenius, and Lina Hurtig are all managing fitness concerns as preparations continue for this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 in Switzerland, which runs from 2 to 27 July.

Russo, who finished the season as joint top scorer in the WSL, missed England’s 6–0 win over Portugal on Friday due to a calf issue. Speaking before that match, Sarina Wiegman said she hoped the striker would be fit for Tuesday’s group-stage decider against Spain, which England must win to top their Nations League group and reach the October semi-finals.

Sweden, meanwhile, have been handed a timely boost. All three Arsenal players – Blackstenius, Hurtig, and Amanda Ilestedt – returned to full training ahead of Tuesday night’s meeting with Denmark.

“I think everyone is capable of starting,” assistant coach Magnus Wikman said. Blackstenius and Ilestedt had been suffering from illness, while Hurtig had also missed the 0–0 draw with Italy.

Sweden need only a draw against Denmark to progress.

Hurtig and Ilstedt remain an Arsenal players until theircontract expires at the end of this month when they will both be released.
