Southampton have been recommended to bolster their creativity-starved attack with the addition of Japanese playmaker Junya Ito.
So far, Southampton fans have learnt a bunch of tactical aspects present in Will Still's formations. Mainly, the focus is on rock solid centre-backs and the common theme of physically dominating strikers leading the attacking department up front.
But they aren't the only positions on the pitch and clearly not the sole ones demanding a strong squad overhaul. Thus, there might be chances that a few future newcomers don't align well according to Will Still's demands.
So, an evergreen success blueprint that's proven to work with every new coach is to seek squad building inspiration from their previous coaching stints. In Still's case, that means keeping an eye for Ligue 1 and if possible, Lens as well as Reims.
Now, Lens have responded to Still's exit by onboarding Southampton's coaching target Pierre Sage but the tailor-made player profile lies at Reims.
Still and Ito together worked wonders in Ligue 1
According to a report from the Daily Echo, that's Japanese national team mainstay Junya Ito who was one of Still's first star signings there.
To give an idea, Ito was entrusted to spark inspiration in Still's then ailing front three and the wide attacker didn't disappoint. Infact, the duo led Reims to the heights of a top half finish before Still opted for a change of scenery.
Regardless, coming to Southampton, Ito can offer Still a decent balance in terms of rotation but even this may not be enough. A few days ago, the Saints passed away an interesting chance to re-sign former star Dusan Tadic meaning there is a minute possibility of them going a different route for Ito.
Yet, nothing is ruled out and let's hope Southampton do consider initiating transfer talks for Junya Ito.
