At the start of this year, we covered claims from Portugal that Aston Villa had sent a scout to watch Sporting’s Geny Catamo.
Catamo mainly operated as a wing-back, used on both wings this season, managing seven goals and five assists from 48 games.
The 24-year-old’s performances have caught Aston Villa’s attention. That’s according to Monday’s edition of A Bola, which states Villa have included him in their ‘shopping list’ for this summer.
His contract lasts until 2028, and the report states it includes €60m release clause. The Lions currently hold 25% of his rights while the remain 75% is with his former club, Amora.
If the Mozambique international were to stay, Sporting’s desire is to offer him a new deal with a pay rise. Catamo isn’t a top earner and could easily be tempted by Aston Villa by offering an ‘irrefutable’ salary.
Aston Villa, however, aren’t willing to meet the price tag set by Sporting. The newspaper states the Lions have lowered the price from €60m to €30m and even then, Unai Emery’s side aren’t convinced.
A Bola state Sporting ‘can even lower the numbers, but they will never sell the player at a bargain price. Very far from that’.
