Sunderland are set to open talks with Liverpool over taking Jayden Danns on loan again next season, according to the Northern Echo.
Sunderland fans were left very frustrated after the January window closed, given the position the club were in. Automatic promotion was still on the cards for SAFC, and supporters felt they were still weak in some areas.
The Black Cats signed Enzo Le Fee and Jayden Danns – both on loan – in January, and both had polar opposite spells. Le Fee made a real difference in the second half of the season while Danns failed to make an appearance due to injury.

Despite Danns’ unfortunate spell, Sunderland are looking to secure his services next season.
After promotion to the Premier League, the Black Cats are set to enter talks with Liverpool over another loan spell, according to the Northern Echo.
Danns’ medical at the club revealed a serious underlying back problem. He has since spent the rest of the season with Liverpool as they looked to fix the problem.
Sunderland had fought off many Championship sides to sign Danns on deadline day. Hull City were among the clubs particularly keen on the Liverpool forward.
Questions finally answered
As the season has gone on, many supporters have wondered why Sunderland even bothered signing Danns. Signing him when knowing he will not be featuring begs the question of what the point was.

However, if they remain keen on the 19-year-old, that question may have been answered. The Black Cats evidently wanted to get ahead of any competition to secure his services once again, should Liverpool be keen on loaning him out again.

With just nine appearances to his name at first-team level, that does look likely next year. Sunderland clearly rate him particularly highly.
Premier League quality?
Trusting Danns to step up next year when Sunderland are already up against it would be a big leap of faith. The Black Cats know they need to strengthen the squad a lot this summer.

It must be said that SAFC surely will need another forward in addition to Danns and the current forwards, Wilson Isidor and Eliezer Mayenda, all three of whom are not very experienced, especially in England.
Danns would also likely not get as much first-team football at Sunderland as in the Championship. Liverpool may feel a season with a second-tier club suits him more.
