Club drop 2 big hints they’re set to sign Arsenal loanee permanently

Arsenal loanee Marquinhos has been given a new number at Cruzeiro and returned to the team, bolstering rumours that he’s set to make his temporary transfer a permanent one.

In recent days, reports suggested that Arsenal and Cruzeiro had reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Marquinhos, with the winger to join the Brazilian club permanently on a contract to 2028.

Marquinhos has been on loan with Cruzeiro throughout 2025 so far, and they had seemed hesitant to trigger their purchase clause. The clause would have activated automatically after a certain number of appearances, and the club stopped picking him before he could reach that target.

Yet the rumours last week implied the matter is now resolved, with Leonardo Jardim reportedly giving his approval to the transfer.

At the time of writing, neither Cruzeiro nor Arsenal have officially confirmed the news, but there have been two major hints that the claims are true.

The first is that Marquinhos has been handed a new number at Cruzeiro, swapping 17 for 7. The second is that the player returned to the team on Sunday night, playing a few minutes against Palmeiras.

Cruzeiro are evidently not worried about Marquinhos activating his appearance clause anymore, which may well be because they’ve already agreed to make the deal permanent.

Arsenal are reportedly set to receive a fee in the region of £2.5m, which is not too dissimilar to the amount they paid to sign him in the first place.
