Arsenal preparing Zubimendi transfer announcement as one of three deals struck

Arsenal are expected to make three major announcements in the month of June and with the summer transfer window now officially open, more could follow.

Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta appear set for a very busy few months as new signings in multiple positions are targeted. As football.london have already reported, a striker, wide forward, defender and back-up goalkeeper are the additions wanted.

Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko are the main candidates to fill the void at the tip of Arteta's team while Nico Williams, Bryan Mbeumo, Jamie Gittens and Leroy Sane are all options on the wing.

Given the resurgence of Jakub Kiwior and rise of Myles Lewis-Skelly, adding defensive depth looks to be less of a priority. The only concrete links thus far have arrived regarding Ajax starlet Jorrel Hato with Arsenal's focus seemingly elsewhere after top target Dean Huijsen opted to join Real Madrid.

Joan Garcia is the main target in between the sticks and though he is expected to leave Espanyol this summer, the race for his signature is very open with Newcastle United and Barcelona also interested.

Strengthening in midfield is another aim but that has already been completed with Martin Zubimendi set to arrive in a £51million deal from Real Sociedad. With the release clause in his contract met and an agreement on personal terms struck, the Spaniard underwent a medical last week, as revealed by BBC Sport.

Assuming all went well, Arsenal will undoubtedly be in the process of preparing an announcement and it is worth noting this should arrive fairly quickly as Zubimendi is with the Spanish national team ahead of their Nations League semi-final against France later this week.

Confirmation of more big moves is also likely over the next few weeks but it is not a double transfer. Instead, it is two new contracts that look to have been agreed with Bukayo Saka one of those committing his future to the club.

Thomas Partey is the other with a verbal agreement believed to be in place and though it remains very likely he stays in north London, a departure as a free agent is possible. According to The Times, the midfielder's entourage have been in negotiations with Barcelona discussing a potential deal.

A return to La Liga is certainly possible with Arsenal having bought him from Atletico Madrid for £45million back in October 2020.

football.london understands that Arteta wants Zubimendi and Partey in his squad for next season. If the latter does depart though, the Gunners would likely enter the market for another addition in the engine room having already lost Jorginho.

The 33-year-old announced his exit in late May after two-and-a-half years at the club with Kieran Tierney set to follow as a free agent departure.
