**The first of two summer transfer windows opened yesterday, and Newcastle United haven't even signed anybody yet!**
In all seriousness, Newcastle will be hoping to act quickly this summer, and their 'priority' target is Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, having coveted the Cameroonian winger since the start of the campaign.
Manchester United are still said to be keen on Mbeumo too, despite having just signed Matheus Cunha for £62 million.
However, Mbeumo is said to want Champions League football, which keeps Newcastle in the driving seat thanks to Man United's failure to qualify for Europe in any form this season.
Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are now in the race for Bryan Mbeumo
-----------------------------------------------------------------
While we can feel a bit comfortable about beating Man United to the 25-year-old's signature, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Arsenal are also keen on the Brentford star, as he revealed on his YouTube channel.
> “Bryan Mbeumo at Brentford is a player they \[Manchester United\] like.“For sure, he remains on the list. But they know they are not alone. There are several clubs interested: Newcastle, Arsenal, many clubs.
>
> “Man United, Newcastle and Arsenal are all clubs monitoring the player. Let’s see what is going to happen there with Bryan Mbeumo.”
Newcastle could still have the edge over Arsenal in the race for Mbeumo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arsenal are a worry given their run of finishing second three seasons in a row, and it would give Mbeumo the option of remaining in London.
However, Mbeumo will know that he'll be up against Bukayo Saka on that right flank, and he may prefer to go somewhere where he'll be first-choice, which again puts Newcastle at the front of the queue.
Paul Mitchell has this mini-transfer window to leave a mark on the club before he leaves at the end of the month, and delivering Bryan Mbeumo would be a good way to do just that, so get on it!
