Vitor Pereira could hold the key to landing perfect Nelson Semedo replacement - opinion

Wolves are set for a busy summer, and a possible Nelson Semedo replacement may be on the agenda.

Semedo’s future at Wolves remains uncertain heading into the summer, with the defender’s deal set to expire in a matter of weeks.

Wolves have offered Semedo a new deal, but it is still unknown whether the 31-year-old will accept the terms proposed by Fosun.

With this in mind, the Molineux outfit may be wise to start planning for life without the Portuguese.

Galatasaray have been linked with Semedo, and Wolves could look to Turkey themselves when it comes to finding his replacement.

Vitor Pereira could help Wolves land Bright Osayi-Samuel

When it comes to finding a viable replacement for Semedo, manager Vitor Pereira may have a trump card up his sleeve.

During his time coaching Fenerbahce in 2021, Pereira managed former Wolves target Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The pair didn’t spend too long working alongside each other, but Pereira more than left his mark on Osayi-Samuel, helping transform the Nigerian into a wing-back.

When speaking on his time playing under Pereira, Osayi-Samuel told The Athletic in 2022:

“That’s not usually my position,” said the Nigerian.

“I’ve been an out-and-out winger. He wanted me to come back as a full-back when we didn’t have the ball. He started teaching me the basics of defending, and from there I started playing as a wing-back.”

Given the clear effect Pereira had on the Fenerbahce man, the Wolves manager may be able to tempt him into a possible Molineux switch this summer.

Wolves will face competition for Osayi-Samuel’s signature

Given that both Semedo and Osayi-Samuel’s contracts are up this summer, Wolves could potentially swap one free agent for another this summer.

The Molineux outfit, though, will face competition for the 26-year-old’s signature, with fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace having already held talks with the wing-back, according to Fotomac.

Wolves could also be tempted by the fact that Osayi-Samuel has impressed in England before at QPR, with former manager Mark Warburton hailing him as ‘outstanding’ back in 2020, via The Brent and Kilburn Times.

Having already thrived in the EFL and also played under Pereira previously, it seems like a no-brainer for Wolves to make a move this summer.
