Chelsea could hand Newcastle United even more transfer disappointment so soon after Liam Delap’s decision.
It has been reported that Liam Delap has chosen to join Chelsea ahead of Newcastle United, with the Blues able to make him a guaranteed starter and offer him Champions League football.
In contrast, Eddie Howe could only offer the latter.
His decision means Newcastle will look elsewhere for a striker, as they aim to provide Alexander Isak with more cover.
The Magpies are also eager to sign a winger, with Bryan Mbeumo Newcastle’s top target. However, he is not the only option that the club have looked at.
Chelsea aim to sign winger who Newcastle United scouted
Newcastle United have also scouted Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens, according to the Daily Mail.

Dortmund could sell Gittens this summer, but it is Chelsea who are pushing hardest to land the 20-year-old.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Gittens.

The report states that Enzo Maresca’s side would like to sign the winger, who has a release clause of around £50million, before the Club World Cup. That competition begins on the 15th June 2025.
Gittens is not the perfect fit for Newcastle United
It will be a blow for Newcastle United if a player they scouted in Gittens heads to Chelsea. However, it is not a major blow.
That is because the youngster primarily plays his football on the left of attack. That is where he has spent the majority of the season for Dortmund, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists.
While he is capable of operating on the right, it is not Gittens’ preferred position.
In contrast, Newcastle United need someone who wants to play on the right. Eddie Howe needs more competition for Jacob Murphy, who is the club’s only senior right winger at the moment.
Over on the left, the Magpies have Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes. Both players want to be on the left, and their talents are diminished when they are shifted across to the other side of the pitch.
In that respect, a move for Gittens would not make total sense for Newcastle United. While his former manager Nuri Sahin has told the Bundesliga’s official website that he is a ‘very good finisher’ with a lot of potential, there should not be too many tears on Tyneside if Gittens ends up at Stamford Bridge over St James’ Park.
