Brentford are finalizing a deal worth up to £18 million ($24 million) to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer.

The 26-year-old Irish international, who has long sought regular first-team football, will replace Mark Flekken after the Dutchman’s €10 million (£8.4 million) transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

The agreement includes an initial £12.5 million payment, with performance-based add-ons potentially raising the total to £18 million.

Key clauses reportedly include £2 million for 20+ Premier League starts in 2025–26 and £1.5 million if Brentford qualify for European competition.

Kelleher departs Liverpool after seven seasons, having made 47 appearances and securing cult-hero status with penalty shootout heroics in the 2022 and 2024 League Cup finals.

Despite his limited league minutes, Reds fans never felt unsafe when the 26-year-old had to deputized for Alisson, and that speaks volumes for Kellehe’s ability.

Now Sky Sports have confirmed that a deal has been agreed between the two clubs and Kelleher will undergo a medical on Monday (today):

“Brentford have agreed an initial £12.5m deal with Liverpool to sign Caoimhin Kelleher,” Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas reports.

“Performance-related add-ons could take the eventual fee to £18m.”

“The Republic of Ireland international is expected to undergo a medical with Brentford on Monday”

With Giorgi Marmadashivili now joining the ranks this summer, it was always expected for Kelleher to depart Anfield.

And with only one year left on his deal, Brentford are able to sign the shot-stopper on a bargain fee.

Speaking after the trophy ceremony at Anfield last month, Kelleher appeared to confirm that his exit was inevitable – saying:

“It’s really special. Nice atmosphere today with the whole crowd and I made a few appearances this season so it’s nice to win something at the end of the season,” Kelleher said.

“I’ve said it before, I feel like I’m a number one and I think I’m good enough to play week in and week out.”

“That’s what I’m looking to do. This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games, but it’s definitely something I’m looking at,” the 26-year-old confirmed.
