Even as the defensive tackles have strengths that might suit them to particular situations, all of these players are equipped to get off the ball and attack up the field. The Browns had a historic defense in 2023, but this defensive line should be truer to Schwartz's vision for what he wants from that group.
When it's working, it will make them more effective up the middle and create space for the linebackers to fly around and make plays. That plays to the strengths of rookie Carson Schwesinger. He has excellent size, but his quick trigger, quickness and length allows him to rack up tackles all over the field. To this point, he hasn't been adept at taking on blocks, so if this goes to plan, he should thrive in the middle of the Browns defense.
Additionally, the increased threat up the middle should create a few more problems when the Browns rush the passer. First, they just need more threats in general. When they traded Za'Darius Smith, they lost impact there. Tomlinson was the second most impactful pass rusher, which underlined how wildly underwhelming the unit was overall.
With a rookie in Graham, it will bear watching how much he can contribute as a pass rusher as a rookie. He should at least provide glimpses. But for Hall and Collins, especially if the Browns are able to put the opponent in more obvious passing situations, that should be one of the most enjoyable elements on the team to watch. Not only are they threats to get to the quarterback in their own right, but that interior pressure could make the quarterback uncomfortable. They're already terrified of Myles Garrett coming off the edge. If they are also worried about threats up the middle, it could result in dropping their eyes, rushed throws and bad decisions.
