He’s had it for about a month now, and whether it’s coincidence or not, his slugging percentage has seen a significant spike since incorporating the new bat into game action.

In early May, Hoskins started using torpedo bats in game action. Reports from Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and David Gasper of Athlon Sports put Hoskins first use of the bat on May 2, a point in the season where he had a .402 slugging percentage.
Over the last 27 games, Hoskins has not used the torpedo bat every single time. He is strategically using them based on match ups and analytics, but he has seen his slugging percentage rise to .465 on the season since. Over this stretch, his slash line has been .265/.333/.520 with six home runs, seven doubles, and 22 RBI.

After a disappointing first year back following ACL surgery, Hoskins is trying to bounce back from a 2024 season where he set numerous career lows across several offensive categories. Whether the torpedo bats play a role in that or not, his work over the last 30 days has been impressive as during that stretch he is first on the Brewers in RBI with 22 and second in hits with 26, doubles with seven, and home runs with six.
It is difficult to say with certainty that the torpedo bat is the driving force behind Hoskins’ recent power surge, but the timing is certainly intriguing. His slugging percentage has climbed noticeably since he began using it in games, and whether it’s the bat, improved timing, or simply a hot stretch at the plate, the results speak for themselves.
Regardless of the cause, the Brewers are reaping the benefits.
