Aston Villa are planning to keep Youri Tielemans at Villa Park.

The Belgian has been a lynchpin of Unai Emery‘s side, featuring 53 times across all competitions for the Villans.

The B6 outfit faces a rough summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League, with Profit and Sustainability issues potentially hampering their business and forcing them to sell star players.

Villa to keep Tielemans despite Champions League failure

The likes of Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins have been linked with moves away from Villa Park after the devastating finale to the campaign.

However, Villa are reportedly planning to offer Tielemans fresh terms to ward off interest in his services from Saudi Arabia.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that it is a great move to tie down a key player without being in Europe’s elite competition.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, he said: “It’s good business by Villa and I am not surprised that they are offering him a new deal because Emery picks him for almost every game.

“I think he rested him on the last day because he has had a long, hard slog in there, and maybe his form tailed off a tad towards the end as Villa got tired.

“They just looked washed out on that final day against Manchester United, like they have been fighting on all those fronts, for a long time, I think it just caught up with them right at the death.

“Very good business, I think he has now matured into a key player impacting the game all the time.”

Tielemans staying would be a huge boost for Villa

The 28-year-old is a trusted lieutenant for the Spaniard and it would have been a devastating blow to lose him this summer.

He was recently named as the Supporters Player of the Season and also won the Players’ award, highlighting his importance to Emery’s side.

There could be a huge overhaul on the cards, with Emi Martinez expected to leave and potentially other stars too, so keeping the experienced midfielder around is crucial to their hopes of returning to Europe’s elite in a year’s time.
