Chelsea have opened formal negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a potential summer move for winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, according toThe Telegraph, as competition intensifies among Premier League clubs for the talented 20-year-old.

Bynoe-Gittens has attracted interest from several top English sides, with Arsenal among the clubs keeping a close eye on his situation. While reports have suggested advanced talks between Chelsea and Dortmund, sources indicate that discussions remain at an early stage. Nevertheless, the Blues are keen to strike a deal swiftly, ideally before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off on June 14 in the United States, a tournament featuring both Chelsea and Dortmund.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are expected to make attacking reinforcements a priority this summer. Mikel Arteta is believed to be targeting additional depth and quality on the flanks, with Bukayo Saka continuing to shine on the right wing. However, Gabriel Martinelli’s inconsistent form on the left has prompted the Gunners to explore potential upgrades.

Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is reportedly at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist, but the North London club are also keeping tabs on Bynoe-Gittens and AC Milan star Rafael Leão. While a move for the Dortmund winger isn’t currently advanced, Arsenal’s interest is understood to be genuine, and a summer deal remains on the table.

The England Under-21 international enjoyed a breakout season in 2024/25, registering 12 goals in 48 appearances. However, his influence waned in the second half of the campaign, starting only three Bundesliga matches after mid-February.

His dip in form coincided with a managerial change at Dortmund. Under former boss Nuri Şahin, Bynoe-Gittens thrived and was one of the team’s standout performers. But since Niko Kovač took over and implemented a more direct, wing-back-oriented system, primarily using a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation, the traditional winger has found opportunities limited.

Despite his reduced role, interest in Bynoe-Gittens remains high. His contract reportedly includes a release clause of around £50 million, making him an appealing option for clubs seeking young, high-upside talent in the current market.
