'I'm not going'– Man Utd legend argues essential 11-word message is what club must deliver on for Ruben Amorim, his position is clear

Rio Ferdinand has made his feelings clear over the one all-important message that he would send to Manchester United’s recruitment team for Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United wrapped up their post-season tour of Asia last Friday after the end of the 2024-25 Premier League season and ahead of the summer window.

Ruben Amorim’s men kicked off the tour in Malaysia and ASEAN All-Stars defeated United 1-0 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur last Wednesday.

Following on from United’s loss to ASEAN All-Stars in Malaysia, the Red Devils travelled to Hong Kong for their final clash of the two-match post-season tour.

United faced the Hong Kong national team and the Red Devils secured a 3-1 comeback win at the Hong Kong Stadium in China last Friday.

United manager Amorim will now be looking ahead to the start of the pre-season campaign in July after United’s result against Hong Kong on the post-season tour.

Rio Ferdinand has one major message for the Man Utd recruitment team amid the summer transfer window opening

Manchester United have moved quickly in the summer transfer window and have already signed Matheus Cunha from Premier League side Wolves on Sunday.

The Red Devils were heavily linked with the 26-year-old Brazilian attacker and United activated the whopping £62.5m release clause in Cunha’s Wolves contract.

Ruben Amorim is in need of a major United first-team squad overhaul after the Red Devils’ disastrous 2024-25 Premier League campaign at Old Trafford.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand insisted that the Red Devils must not overlook the need to bring in an “experienced” striker in the summer window.

“I think this is a great start to the transfer window,” he said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.

“If I was advising the recruitment team on anything now, I would be saying: ‘Please make sure you do not forget an experienced No 9.’”

Rio Ferdinand identifies other key transfer areas that Man Utd must improve for Ruben Amorim in the summer window

Amorim had been short of a regular goalscoring striker at United after he left Sporting CP in 2024 and replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout.

The United manager was left with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as his main options and both struggling strikers disappointed with their respective goalscoring outputs.

Ferdinand has suggested that the Red Devils need to bring in the right profile of a midfielder who can make Amorim’s tactical system at United tick even better.

“I’m not going to say names, I’ve said the names too many times, and I would go and get a midfielder as well,” he said.

“A midfielder that can dictate the play and pass and be the orchestrator, but he also needs to have some legs about him as well. That’s what Ruben Amorim’s teams are about, they do that.

“Those two players would be the next ones, a centre-forward and a central midfielder, also a right-back.”

United ended the 2024-25 campaign in 15th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils will be without European football in the 2025-26 season.
