Former Blue Devil Jay Bilas has never been shy about expressing his opinion, and now he’s weighing in on a couple of NBA Draft story lines.
First, he points out that the idea that Boston would go after Flagg because he is a New England native is kind of ridiculous and that he doesn’t think Dallas is going to accept any offer anyway. He also argues that Reggie Miller, an LA native, stayed with Indiana for his entire NBA career to back up his point.
However, this is not ridiculous: the idea that Flagg would love to play for the team that he grew up idolizing. That’s a different story though and Flagg can't do anything about it until he finishes his rookie contract.
Secondly, he dismisses the idea that the NBA Draft is rigged, pointing out that this would involve a number of federal crimes.
He does bring up one thing that we’ve never heard before: that in 1985, when Patrick Ewing was the great prize, the league allegedly (read: did NOT) put the “winning” envelope into the freezer so it’d be easy to pick out.
Aside from the federal crimes, the accounting firm - we think it’s Deloite and Touche - would destroy its business credibility. The NBA is a fun account, but it’s pretty minor compared to Procter & Gamble, Morgan & Stanley, Berkshire Hathaway and Starbucks, all of whom would like dump Deloite and Touche if their integrity was compromised by something as trivial as the NBA Draft.
Not happening.
