Every year, shortly after the end of the season, Pep Guardiola travels to play a golf tournament in Girona. It raises money for the Guardiola Sala Foundation, and each year the Manchester City manager talks openly when questioned by the media.
Sometimes those comments have made huge news, with remarks about Lionel Messi and the manager’s future being popular down the years. This time there was nothing controversial, as the Manchester City manager took time to praise Lamine Yamal, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Enrique.
Guardiola insisted Lamine Yamal is at the best club for his development, and said if it’s true Barcelona have just put him on an astronomical wage then it’s because he deserves it.
The media pressed a little for Manchester City transfer news, and Guardiola was asked if the Premier League club are truly keen on Joan Garcia. Barcelona are trying to sign the Espanyol player and there’s confidence a deal will be done.
On whether there was chance of a move to Manchester City for the stopper, Guardiola is quoted by [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/guardiola-lamine-mejor-sitio-118118505) as saying:
_“Joan Garcia is a very good goalkeeper. City is interested in 500 players every transfer window. He’s an Espanyol player, and I don’t know what will happen. The players tell me he’s an extraordinary goalkeeper. The references we have are very good. Ter Stegen? I don’t know much about goalkeepers. I tell them to save. We’ve talked about the situation of the squad, and the two goalkeepers we have will stay.”_

On Manchester City’s season, Guardiola said: _“The season has been difficult, a tough year. We struggled a lot in the Champions League, we weren’t solid or consistent. We’ve achieved the most important title, which is qualification for the Champions League; it’s more important in England than some titles. It’s becoming more complicated, as seven, eight, or nine teams can qualify. We finished on a high note and it’s now time for the Club World Cup, where we’re in good shape, with the idea of going through the rounds and seeing what happens.”_
