Resolution continues to appear tantalizingly close as Liverpool continue negotiations to sign superstar 22-year-old German attacker Florian Wirtz in what is likely to end up a record transfer deal for an English club, but it’s not here just yet.
That’s the latest following a flurry of reports out of Germany and England claiming that Liverpool’s latest bid—their second, at around €130M (£109M)—made over the weekend has in fact been rejected by the Bundesliga club but negotiations continue.
This isn’t entirely surprising, as when news of a second bid leaked late last week there was always a belief Bayer weren’t in full agreement on the add-on structure at the very least and suggesting that a third bid at minimum would be required.
This is also likely not entirely new news, either, with some German reports suggesting the bid was likely rejected soon after it arrived late last week. There has also been once again the suggestion Bayer may be seeking a player in return for Wirtz.
The two likely candidates for that are said to be forward Harvey Elliott and centre half Jarell Quansah, two highly rated young players who struggled to get into Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s plans last season who fill positions of need for Bayer.
