Reds' Review | August

Following a record-breaking campaign for Nottingham Forest, we’re looking back across the season, reliving key moments, memorable matches and stunning strikes from across the 2024/25 campaign.

As August began, Nottingham Forest embarked on a new Premier League campaign with the visit of AFC Bournemouth to The City Ground on a balmy afternoon in NG2.

After losing Danilo to a freak ankle injury on 15 minutes, the Reds responded to the setback by opening the scoring through Chris Wood’s first goal of the season on 23 minutes when the New Zealand international pounced after Ryan Yates’ drive was parried by Neto.

The Cherries saw an equaliser ruled out by VAR for offside in a tightly contested affair and with time beginning to run down, the three points appeared to be remaining at The City Ground.

Alas, with just four minutes remaining, the visitors pulled themselves level through Antoine Semenyo, who bundled the ball into the Forest net.

Forest’s first away trip of the campaign was also against a side from the south coast in Southampton; however the result would be more favourable for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

Nikola Milenković made his Forest bow at St Mary’s as the Reds kept a first Premier League clean sheet of the season and claimed victory thanks to Morgan Gibbs-White’s first goal of the campaign, placing the ball into the net after seeing his first effort blocked.

One could very easily have been two or three with Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi both going close in the closing stages, but one was enough for three Forest points.

The Reds’ Carabao Cup adventure started and ended with the visit of Newcastle United.

Jota brought Forest level after Joe Willock put the Magpies ahead in the first half before Eddie Howe’s charges would progress 4-3 on penalties.

Forest’s final fixture of the month came against Wolves on home turf as the Reds retained our unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

Wood headed his second of the season from Elliot Anderson’s outswinging corner on 10 minutes before Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s strike from distance two minutes later meant a second home 1-1 draw of the season for Nuno’s side, despite persistent pressure from the Reds.

Five points and an unbeaten August to get Forest going, with plenty more to come across the campaign.
