Chelsea, Arsenal Refuse to Submit€70M Offers for Viktor Gyokeres

Sporting CP have not yet received any official offers for striker Viktor Gyokeres. Apparently, interested top clubs in Europe have stalled in discussions and are waiting for the club to become more reasonable. The Portuguese side are adamant in their valuation of the Swedish forward and are asking for €70 million.

Arsenal had reportedly held talks with his agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, in Lisbon over the possible transfer. Rumours emerged that the Gunners reportedly bid €70 million for Gyokeres a few days ago, which was rejected outright by Sporting. However, Sporting vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha revealed that no offers had come in for the striker:

“He has three more years on his contract. At the moment, there are no offers, he has three more years on his contract. I think the answer has been given. [Sporting’s transfer plans] won’t be any different from last year…

“We want to keep the best players and retain talent. We want to continue to be champions, have competitive teams and fight on all fronts.”

He continued:

“I have been in this role for seven years. In the years when Sporting were champions, we even made fewer sales than in other years … the fact that we are champions gives us a greater ability to retain players and talent.

“Coincidence or not, we have not had to sell any players in those times. Not that we have not received offers, but the market is not under our control, we are always dependent.”

Chelsea and Other Clubs Have Been Interested in Gyokeres

Gyokeres has been in top shape for Sporting, netting 54 goals and laying on 13 assists in 52 games across the 2024–25 season, guiding Sporting to a double domestically. His form has attracted the attention of clubs such as Chelsea, but none of those approaches have come anywhere close to Sporting’s valuation yet.

The 26-year-old striker, who signed for Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, possesses an exit clause of €100 million in his contract, which runs until 2028. Sources, however, clarify that there is a possibility for him to leave by word of mouth for €70 million.

As the summer window nears, only time will tell if any club is willing to offer Sporting their asking price for Gyokeres. Meanwhile, the striker remains committed to his stint with the Portuguese champions.
