West Ham have stuttered in their bid to elevate themselves as a serious Premier League contender.

Having won the Europa Conference League under David Moyes, the Hammers have failed to make the progress they so desperately desired.

The Irons did possess a great talent in Declan Rice, but he inevitably exited for Arsenal, where he has gone on to be their talisman.

West Ham reinvested some of that money in Mohammed Kudus, and it appears the Irons have a decision to make on him this summer.

West Ham must deal with Mohammed Kudus issue

When West Ham signed Kudus from Ajax, there was cause for optimism around the London Stadium.

The Ghanaian proved to be an instant hit and put in a series of thrilling performances for the Hammers, while being deadly in front of goal.

Kudus notched 23 goal involvements during his first season in East London, including five goals in the Europa League.

However, the 24-year-old has failed to replicate that fine form this term, leading to reports of a possible departure.

Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the winger, while there is also reported interest in Kudus from Saudi Arabia.

As supporters send their messages to BBC Sport (2 June), chief football reporter Simon Stone has provided insight on what might happen this summer.

He says that West Ham are in a better position than they have been for some time, but they do have a problem they need to address.

Stone adds that the issue is that the money obtained from selling Rice has gone, so a decision must be made about the future of Kudus.

This suggests that the Hammers will have to sell to bring in funds to reinvest in their faltering squad.

The Hammers need investment for Potter to succeed

If Kudus has to leave the London Stadium for Graham Potter to rebuild West Ham, then it must be done.

Since Potter arrived in the capital, he has found it difficult to turn the tide, but in truth, he has not put his stamp on the team yet.

There are several areas where the Hammers must strengthen, including in goal, defence, and attack.

Now that Lukasz Fabianski has departed the Irons, they must sign an upgrade to play ahead of Alphonse Areola.

Furthermore, Jarrod Bowen cannot be expected to be the sole source of West Ham goals, and therefore, he needs support.

Potter has much work ahead of him this summer and will need Kudus to leave to achieve his ambition.
