Fabrizio Romano issues Bryan Mbeumo update and Marc Guehi rejects rivals

This summer is bound to have plenty of twists and turns between now and 7pm on September 1st, although it does seem very likely that Newcastle spend a big chunk of their budget on a quality right winger and centre-back.

They appear to be our top priorities and two names mentioned regularly since the season finished two weekends ago are Bryan Mbeumo and Marc Guehi.

The Telegraph reported last week that Newcastle hope to sign both, with opening bids thought to be imminent, although there is no doubt we’ll face competition.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle are battling Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal for the signature of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

Speaking on his Youtube channel today, the transfer specialist reports that all three are in the mix for the Cameroonian, who scored 20 league goals under Thomas Frank last season.

“Bryan Mbeumo at Brentford is a player they [Manchester United] like.”

“For sure, he remains on the list. But they know they are not alone. There are several clubs interested: Newcastle, Arsenal, many clubs.

“Man United, Newcastle and Arsenal are all clubs monitoring the player. Let’s see what is going to happen there with Bryan Mbeumo.”

A bidding war is possible and something Newcastle may wish to avoid, but Newcastle could, in theory, benefit from the fact Man Utd are unable to offer European football.

Arsenal can, although I’d wonder where Mbeumo fits in as a right-winger who is unlikely to take Bukayo Saka’s place in Mikel Arteta’s side anytime soon.

Moving to Marc Guehi, the Crystal Palace captain is likely to be in demand this summer after entering the final 12 months of his contract.

A number of clubs have been linked – Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern have all been listed as potential suitors – although it seems one London club have already been rejected by the 24-year-old.

The Times report that Guehi is ‘not interested’ in joining Tottenham, with the North London side set to fail should they come back in for the centre-back after a January bid was turned down by Palace.
