Leeds United hero Kalvin Phillips spotted in Leeds amid Man City transfer speculation

Leeds United favourite Kalvin Phillips was pictured back in his home city over the weekend as he attended the Kaiser Chiefs' homecoming gig at Temple Newsam.

The Ricky Wilson-fronted band returned to the city for a gig which not only celebrated 20 years of their 'Employment' album but also the Whites' return to the Premier League. As such, a host of Leeds favourites both past and present were at the concert including Phillips.

Sharing a picture with Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas, Josh Warrington, Martin Sykes, former manager Simon Grayson showed that Phillips was back in Yorkshire for the gig. Sadly for those hoping that the midfielder would be in shape to do a medical and make a speedy, full-time return to Elland Road, that prospect looks unlikely for now.

Phillips was spotted in a foot brace after he underwent surgery on his achilles following his loan spell at Ipswich Town. The midfielder missed six of the last seven Premier League matches for the Tractor Boys due to the injury and our colleagues at the Manchester Evening News reports he will be sidelined until August while he recuperates from the surgery.

This is, of course, a hammer blow for those hoping the affectionately nicknamed 'Yorkshire Pirlo' will return to his boyhood team during the transfer window. While he is recovering from surgery, Phillips is unlikely to be given a medical at Leeds.

Since departing the Whites, it has been a difficult period for Phillips. He could not establish himself as a regular for Manchester City upon his arrival at the club with Rodri making that position his own.

He was accused at one stage of being overweight by Pep Guardiola only for the City boss to quickly apologise. This did not lead to further opportunities for Phillips though.

He spent the last year and a half on loan at West Ham United and Ipswich and it is expected that City would wish to sell him in the summer. Since leaving the club temporarily, City have signed Nico Gonzalez to provide competition to Rodri leaving little room for Phillips.
