Celtics assistant general manager Austin Ainge has been hired as president of basketball operations of the Utah Jazz, Ainge told the Globe by phone on Monday morning.

Ainge, 43, was first hired by the Celtics in 2008. He was named director of player personnel in 2011 and spent the last 14 seasons in the team’s front office. He had a stint as general manager of the team’s G League affiliate in Maine and was named Celtics assistant general manager six years ago, helping build the roster that won the 2024 NBA championship.

He will be reunited in Utah with his father, former Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, who retired from his post with the Celtics after the 2021 season and later was named CEO and alternate governor of the Jazz.
