Titans Rookie QB Cam Ward Aims to Continue Positive Momentum Heading Into Second Week of OTAs

NASHVILLE – At the start of OTAs, Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward was asked about his process, and timeline, in solidifying himself as the team's starter this fall.

Ward's response:

"I'm on Coach Callahan's timeline," Ward said with a smile, referring to head coach Brian Callahan. "That's really not my decision. I know I have a lot to work on, a lot of processing to do to play in the NFL."

But, make no mistake: Ward is confident he can get there.

"I think I am getting up there at a rapid pace, so I am excited," Ward said. "I just think the biggest thing for me is taking it day by day, learning from one day to the next."

Drafted first overall by the Titans in the NFL Draft, Ward got his first dose of the NFL during a rookie minicamp in May.

Ward then jumped into the offseason program, which transitioned into Phase 3 last week with three days of organized team activities.

Ward looked comfortable in the one day of open availability last week, completing 11-of-17 passes in 7-on-7 and team drills combined. He got better as the week went on, impressing onlookers with tight-window throws, and his accuracy.

Ward said the start has been good, and exciting.

"I have been put in this position, God blessed me with it," he said. "So, I am just taking advantage of every opportunity He gives me. I get to play around some good guys up front, defensively we have some good talent. So I am excited to see us put it on the field on Sundays."

The Titans return to the practice field at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park for OTA No.4 on Monday, and the team is scheduled to hold two more OTAs this week. Tuesday's OTA session will be open to media.

Next week, the Titans will conduct a three-day minicamp.

Ward knows there will be some ups and downs, but that's nothing new, he said.

"I've had highs and lows throughout my whole career," Ward said. "You're going to lose a game, you're going to win a lot of games. So, I am excited. I am excited to be a part of this journey, to help change this franchise around."
