Brentford manager Thomas Frank has made his feelings clear on Bryan Mbeumo’s future and it could mean good news for Manchester United.
Manchester United are aiming to bolster their misfiring attack this summer and have already agreed a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
The Brazilian forward, one of the Premier League’s standout performers last season, is expected to be the first of several attacking signings for the Reds.
According to reports, United have now set their sights on Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo as a potential target in the coming months. Newcastle are also in the race to sign him this summer.
Mbeumo had an excellent season, recording 20 goals and eight assists, but questions remain over his future at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Franks confirms Mbeumo report which gives United boost
It was reported this week that United have emerged as frontrunners for Mbeumo’s signature as Newcastle are unwilling to match his £60 million price tag.
The Magpies want the fee to be lowered while United are said to be open to paying that amount for the 25-year-old. It is unlikely that Brentford change their stance on the price as well.
Thomas Frank has been extremely honest when speaking about the future of his star man and the Brentford boss has confirmed that the club will only be willing to sell Mbeumo for ‘the right price’ which suggests there is in fact little wiggle room in their valuation.
“I want my best players to stay forever. I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he’s thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don’t know,” Frank told Sky Sports.
“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.
“So, of course, if the right price – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open for it. But I’m very happy he’s here, and I’m convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here.”
Amad’s role if Mbeumo joins United
The potential arrival of Mbeumo would almost guarantee that Amad is used mostly as the wingback from next season under Amorim.
Amad was one of the standout performers from a disappointing campaign and excelled in the frontline and at wingback.
But the United boss wants an attacking option to play in at least one of the two wide roles so it is likely that the 22-year-old takes on that role, linking up with Mbeumo ahead of him.

Some believe that Amad’s best football is played closer to goal while others argue that the space afforded to him at wingback is best for him, and also allows him to ghost towards the box.
Having the likes of Cunha, Mbeumo and Amad, potentially alongside Bruno Fernandes and a new striker, should really help the goalscoring issues at Old Trafford.
