One of Manchester United’s summer targets is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to move back to the Premier League with Rúben Amorim needing a striker.
Manchester United are in the market for new strikers this summer following a dismal 2024/25 season that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and end as Europa League runners-up.
Once famed for their attacking flair, United struggled to convert chances this season. Bruno Fernandes led the scoring with 19 goals, while Amad and Alejandro Garnacho followed with 11 each—no player broke the 20-goal mark.
To address their attacking shortcomings, the club are turning to the transfer window. Matheus Cunha has completed his medical ahead of a £62.5 million move from Wolves, with United now awaiting the completion of his visa.
Rúben Amorim’s side are also monitoring further attacking reinforcements, though financial constraints and the absence of Champions League football may complicate their pursuit of top-level talent.
Mitrovic willing to take pay cut to join United
With United in need of goalscoring experience, a fresh report from talkSPORT has claimed that United are considering a move for Al-Hilal’s Aleksandar Mitrovic after losing out on signing Liam Delap.
The report states that with United, West Ham, and Everton all monitoring the 30-year-old’s situation, the Serbian international is available for either a loan or a permanent sale this summer in the region of £40 million.
Mitrovic earns around £400,000 a week at Al-Hilal and has scored 68 goals in 79 appearances for the club, although they are now looking to bring in Victor Osimhen as their new first-choice striker.
But, with no club in Europe likely willing to pay such a heavy wage to a 30-year-old striker, he is said to be willing to take a pay cut in order to facilitate a move back to the Premier League.
United should not be looking at Mitrovic this summer
Although it is a given that United must look for a more experienced striker to lead the line next season compared to Amorim’s current options, Mitrovic is not the answer.

The Serb’s English experience came with both Newcastle and Fulham, where he netted 85 goals in 126 Championship appearances before scoring a further 38 in 129 Premier League outings.
However, with United looking to build a team for the future, spending £40 million on the ageing player is not a worthwhile signing.
United must look at players with either Premier League or European experience who are around 24 to 27 years old and entering their prime seasons, with Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres the current standout choices ahead of the 2025/26 season.
