Joël Piroe’s time as Leeds United’s number nine could come to an end this summer.

Bridging the gap between the Championship and the Premier League is no easy task, though that is the one that awaits Leeds United next season.

To do that, the Whites will need to recruit well, and with several players already linked with a move to Elland Road, it seems as though they are hoping to achieve that.

Daniel Farke will be backed in the window, and the German will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his squad in two key positions.

Leeds to sign a new number nine this summer

The signing of a new striker will be high up on the list of priorities for the Whites this summer, especially with Mateo Joseph potentially on his way out.

However, even before news of his desire to quit emerged, it was evident that Leeds wanted to sign a new striker, with Callum Wilson among those linked, and Paul Robinson hinted that it could open up a new role for Piroe to occupy next season.

Piroe’s record for Leeds in the Championship.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “Piroe, listen, he was outstanding last season in the Championship, but I think he’s better operated as a number 10.

“I think he can play as a striker, he gives you an option as a nine. He was the top scorer last year in the Championship. He was outstanding, but they will look for a number nine.”

Piroe could take Brenden Aaronson’s place at Leeds

There isn’t an area of the squad that can’t be improved this summer for Leeds, though the addition of a number nine would then allow Piroe to occupy the 10 role.

Aaronson was the go-to for Farke there last season, but Piroe may be far more suited to that position in the Premier League, especially given that Aaronson has tried and failed there in the top flight before.

With that said, Leeds need new additions, and with the transfer window now open, they have very little time to waste.
