'Frustrating' - Fabrizio Romano at it again as Newcastle United hit back at transfer claims

Newcastle United have made their stance on Tino Livramento clear amid interest from Manchester City.

Newcastle United are intent on keeping Tino Livramento as Fabrizio Romano continues to drum up Manchester City’s interest in the full-back.

Many thought the Magpies had taken a risk when they forked out an initial £32million to sign Livramento from Southampton in the summer of 2023 as he had only just recovered from a long-term ACL injury.

Eased into the team during his first season, Livramento established himself as a regular in the last. He began the campaign at right-back before switching to left-back to cover for the injured Lewis Hall.

And the 22-year-old earned huge plaudits, barely giving Mohammed Salah a sniff in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool while maintaining a consistent level of performances to help Newcastle qualify for the Champions League.

On top of all that, Livramento made his senior England debut last year and will go away with the under-21s this summer as they compete at the European Championship finals.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City interested Tino Livramento

Not for the first time this summer has Italian journalist Romano reported that Man City are interested in signing Livramento.

Whilst revealing that Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is expected to move to the Etihad Stadium, Romano again stated that Livramento was a target, though this time added that a deal would be difficult to do.

Romano wrote: “The main targets for Manchester City at fullback positions remain Tino Livramento and Rayan Ait-Nouri. Talks to advance soon for Ait-Nouri with move expected to happen, City are very confident as revealed days ago. Livramento, difficult deal as #NUFC hope to keep him”.

Eddie Howe has been asked previously about Livramento and he reiterated that Newcastle don’t want to lose their best players. And they are under no pressure to sell too, having navigated their way through a tricky period regarding Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

“Yes, I think it goes without saying [we want to keep him],” Howe said. “I think it's frustrating for us that we're consistently talking about players, rumours of be leaving.

“We want to go the other way. We want to strengthen the group. We want to make our team and squad stronger for the future rather than lose our best players.”

Tino Livramento happy at Newcastle United

Livramento has also previously expressed how happy he is at Newcastle, where he has made 80 appearances in two seasons.

“The goal was always to be playing in the Premier League as early as possible,” Livramento said. “I left Chelsea and got that experience straight away at Southampton. I had some tough times with injuries but the club and the fans were great to me.

“Now I’m at a place I absolutely love – the atmosphere, the supporters, the manager, it feels like I’m in a great place at Newcastle. I’m in the best place I could be to learn and develop as a footballer.”
