Man Utd eye shock move for ex-Newcastle striker after £30m blow – TalkSPORT

Even though the transfer window has only just opened, Newcastle United have already found themselves in a few transfer sagas involving Manchester United.

The Red Devils are in dire need of a rebuild following their worst campaign in Premier League history, and are also vying for the signature of Toon target Bryan Mbeumo after both clubs just missed out on a £30m deal for Liam Delap.

But as part of their rebuild, could a former Newcastle forward be making the move to Old Trafford? He’s no stranger to the Premier League, but it’s certainly an interesting transfer should he make the move to Manchester.

According to TalkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, Manchester United are considering a surprise move for former Magpies striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Like us, Manchester United missed out on the Chelsea-bound Liam Delap, and are in desperate need of a goalscorer for next season.

The Serbian, who currently stars for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, recorded 14 goals in 65 league appearances for us, earning cult hero status on Tyneside on the way.

According to Jacobs, the 30-year-old is willing to take a pay cut to return to England, with West Ham and Everton also listed as potential suitors after the striker has netted 47 goals in 51 Saudi Pro League appearances.

But Al-Hilal are asking for a reported £40m for Mitrovic, though you could imagine this fee decreasing if Bruno Fernandes himself makes the move to Riyadh.

Speaking of former cult heroes currently in Saudi Arabia, one fan favourite is also back on the move after an injury-blighted loan spell.

Allan Saint-Maximin is due to return to Al-Ahli after a tough stint in Turkey for Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, where the Frenchman reportedly fell out with the Portuguese icon.

Speaking on social media, the 28-year-old commented: “It was a beautiful but difficult experience, with issues outside football but everything is well now thank god.”

“I gave my best on the pitch despite these complications and I am grateful for the continuous love and support you gave me everyday.”

A player of Saint-Maximin’s skill and flair is sorely missed at St James’ Park, but still plagued by injury woes, any fans who may have harboured hope of him one day returning are very unlikely to see this happen.

It’s so far unclear as to where Saint-Maximin’s future lies, with another move away from Jeddah giants Al-Ahli the most likely scenario.
