Eagles Vet Who Could Be Pushed Out Makes Plea to Retire With Philly

The Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl champions but they’ll look much different in 2025. The Eagles said goodbye to several key contributors in free agency as Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Mekhi Becton all found new teams in free agency. While it was hard to let them go, it’s part of Howie Roseman’s strategy to reload the roster and make another push for the championship.

That process has several veterans still on the team looking for one final run. This includes one potential trade candidate that wound up staying in Philadelphia and is making his case to stay with the team long after the 2025 season concludes.

Dallas Goedert Makes it Clear He Wants to Retire an Eagle

Dallas Goedert was believed to be on the trade block this offseason but is still on the Eagles’ roster after reworking his contract last month. While Goedert admitted there was plenty of uncertainty, he also said he ultimately returned to Philadelphia in part due to his desire to retire as an Eagle.

“I’m really excited about this year,” Goedert told Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “Obviously, I’d love to play my entire career in Philadelphia, but I’m not too worried about [the future]. I’m excited to see what happens this year. Excited to put up a really good year, have a successful year with an incredible team and let my agent handle his job and talks after the season.”

Goedert has become a big part of the Eagles since arriving as a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. In seven seasons, he’s caught 349 passes for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns. While he’s an integral part of the offense, he also had the lowest reception (42) and yardage (496) totals of his career and entering the final year of a four-year, $57 million extension.

With Goedert’s cap hit at $11.7 million and his preference not to play the final year of his contract without guarantees, the two sides were at a stalemate as Goedert was on the open market. Ultimately, the two sides found common ground and Goedert returned for an eighth season.

If Goedert is a part of another Super Bowl run, the 30-year-old could convince the Eagles for a contract that would ensure he ends his career in Philadelphia. If the Eagles choose to move on, Goedert could always come back on a one-day contract to make sure he retires with the team. But if it’s up to him, he’d rather wear one uniform over the course of his career and seems motivated to make it happen.
